Lil Tjay’s Alleged Shooter Arrested, Shot Rapper Multiple Times in Robbery Attempt

In relation to the killing of Lil Tjay, three persons have been detained, one of whom authorities think was the gunman. According to police, a robbery attempt allegedly targeted the musician.
Mohamed Konate, 27, has been detained and is being held as the main suspect in Tjay’s shooting, according to a statement issued by the Bergen County, New Jersey Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday evening (June 22). Three counts of attempted murder, three counts of armed robbery, and several more charges involving illegal firearms have been brought against Konate.

The “In My Head” rapper was shot early on Wednesday morning, according to the Edgewater, New Jersey Police Department, after Konate allegedly tried to rob him and two other guys he was with. Tjay and his two accomplices, Jeffery Valdez and Antoine Boyd, were said to be at Edgewater, New Jersey’s The Promenade at the time of the shooting. Konate’s extradition to New Jersey is currently pending after he was detained by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the New York City Police Department.
As was previously reported, soon after midnight, two people were shot in the affluent New Jersey neighborhood, one of which was 22-year-old Lil Tjay’s companion.

Both Jeffery Valdez and Antoine Boyd were detained during the inquiry after, according to police, they were both accused of possessing an illegal weapon. At an undisclosed time, Valdez and Boyd will make their initial court appearance at the Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, New Jersey. They have been remanded to custody in the Bergen County Jail.

During the alleged attempted heist, Lil Tjay was reportedly shot several times. The Bronx, New York, native’s condition was upgraded from critical to stable following emergency surgery, according to TMZ.

The Bergen County, New Jersey Prosecutor’s Office issued a statement on the incident as soon as news of the shooting spread.

The statement adds, “A shooting that occurred at 14 The Promenade, Edgewater, NJ on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 is under investigation by the Edgewater Police Department and the Major Crimes Unit of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office. The Edgewater Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at that address at around 12:08 a.m. on June 22. A 22-year-old victim with numerous gunshot wounds was discovered by responding officers. Another 22-year-old victim with a gunshot wound was discovered by officers when they went to the Exxon Station at 478 River Road in Edgewater.

They were both taken to a local hospital, where they are receiving care.
