22Gz is an American rapper from Brooklyn, New York. He also goes by the moniker, 22 Blicky. In 2016, he got noticed after his singles “Blicky” ft Nas Blicky & NiikoSauv and “Suburban” blew up online. He also made headlines in May 2017, when he allegedly shot and killed a man, in Miami, over a parking dispute. Real name, Jeffrey Alexander, he was born on November 29, 1997, in Brooklyn, New York. He is of Guyanese descent. His father was killed a month before he was born, thus he grew up with his mother. 22Gz explained that his mother was always supportive of him and made sure he had a roof over his head. After his mother moved away to work, he stayed with his sister.
22Gz attended Transit Tech High School in Brooklyn. Growing up, he had his run-ins with the law, but as he explained in an interview, nothing serious. Prior to music, he played basketball with hopes of making it to the NBA. When hooping failed, he started rapping. Though he started rapping seriously in 2016, he admitted that he’s been freestyling for years with his homies. 22Gz grew up to the sounds of Meek Mill and Future. His career was inspired by rappers like Jadakiss, 50 Cent, Jay Z, and Chief Keef. He is also associated with the Blixky Gang, a rap unit out of Brooklyn consisting of 8 artists. In the hood, he is known as 22. His stage name, without a doubt, was derived from that.
In 2016, 22Gz began putting out heat. “Blicky,” his first song to catch fire, placed the young artist on the public’s radar. Released in early 2016, the single has garnered millions of streams online. On YouTube alone, it has an ongoing view count of +1.6 million. Later that year, he dropped another heat seeker, “Suburban.” The track surpassed its predecessor racking up over 4 million views to date. What some rappers take years to accomplish, 22Gz was checking off in months. Other notable collabs included “Up Next” and “Flexin.”
In 2017, his music career was overshadowed by shooting allegations. On May 30, a series of events transpired resulting in the death of 2 men. While in Miami, 22Gz (passenger) and a friend (driver) were parking a BMW sedan. Trying to parallel park into a tight spot, the BMW kept hitting the Buick in front of it. Ladarian Phillips and Edward Ellis (Buick owner) approached the Bimmer and confronted them about the damage. An argument ensued, shots erupted from the BMW, and Phillips lost his life. The Bimmer fled, but came to a crashing halt after coming under heavy gunfire from police. The driver died from inflicted injuries and 22Gz, uninjured, was charged for killing Phillips. After spending 5 months in prison, he was freed; charges against him were dropped after evidence proved the driver to be the shooter. In late 2017, he was officially released from jail.
In 2018, 22Gz tried to drum-start his career. “Never Ran” alongside Leeky Bandz, “Grippin 44z,” and “Blicky Da Blicky” created a spark but never quite ignited. Despite his shortcomings, his previous bangers did not go unnoticed. Kodak Black took note of his talent and signed the rapper to his label, Sniper Gang. Recently, 22Gz’s new single “Spin the Block” ft Kodak Black has been blowing up online. Released in November 2018, the track has garnered 1.7 million YouTube views in 2 weeks. His Blixky mixtape is also creating a lot of buzz.
22Gz’s height is 5ft 5in. His net worth is estimated at $700 Thousand USD. In 2014, before the Miami incident, he was hit with conspiracy charges; conspiracy to commit murder. That case was eventually settled and he walked away as a free man. Growing up, he was the youngest of 5 siblings. He has a girlfriend but admits that his eyes wander at times. His Instagram Account has +88k followers and his YouTube channel houses +13k subscribers.
