Fact Check: Did Osinbajo Patronise Ice Cream Shop After Shettima’s Comment?
A video of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo shopping for popcorn with several of his staff has gone viral, eliciting laughs and applause from spectators.
A segment of Nigerians believe the vice president executed the prank in response to remarks attributed to Senator Kashim Shettima, the coordinator of former Lagos State Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s campaign team, ahead of the APC presidential primary set for Abuja.
Shettima stated on a Channels Television program called Politics Today that Tinubu is the greatest candidate for the post.
“The VP?” he said when questioned about Osinbajo’s chances of winning the APC presidential nomination. Osinbajo is a kind man, but nice men don’t make excellent leaders, and recognized men tend to be unpleasant.
“Nice guys should be selling popcorn, ice cream, and bologna, but he is a really decent person, which I cannot deny, and he is a personal friend of mine, so I would rather not remark on his person, but he is a decent man.” I can assure you of that.”
Daily Trust’s investigation discovered that the video is an old one that has been re-circulated. In 2018, the video was shot at Genesis cinema.
Prof. Osinbajo tweeted at 8:43 p.m. on December 21, 2018, saying he was at Genesis Cinema, where he planned to watch Nollywood’s most recent highest earning film, Chief Daddy, with youngsters that evening.
The vice president could be seen exchanging jokes and popcorn with delighted youngsters in a tweet (supported by a video) sent from his verified Twitter handle, @ProfOsinbajo.
Daily Trust can explicitly verify that the viral video in circulation and the accompanying story are an intentional attempt to deceive the general public, based on the substance of the VP’s tweet from 2018.
The video isn’t brand new and should be ignored.
