2023: LP picks Okupe as Peter Obi’s running mate

Dr. Doyin Okupe, a former presidential spokesperson, announced on Friday that he is ‘standing in’ as Peter Obi’s running mate.

On Politics Today on Channels Television, Okupe made the declaration.
Okupe said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had received his name in Obi’s form.

The process of selecting the vice presidential candidate is electoral in nature and continues till the process and schedule are complete, according to Okupe.

Okupe suggested he might be replaced later, similar to All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu.

“INEC permits you to present a candidate, and if a replacement is required, you may do so at a later time. But if it’s not required, you could just keep on. Therefore, the current position is that we think that this Labour party government will primarily focus on young Nigerians.

I am willing to lay down my back so that young people can stand and rise to the top. “Those of us who have been a part and parcel of our sordid past must be prepared to pay the sacrifice, even the personal sacrifice, of allowing a situation we can lift our youths to positions of power and authority.

Doctor Mr. Okupe is from Ogun State in southwest Nigeria. Additionally, he worked as Olusegun Obasanjo’s spokesperson.
